The clan background for Swenstead. Key details were first generated by Michael Schwartz using the latest version of the Heortling Clan Generator and an email poll of the group. Additional information has arisen through group discussion and individual contributions by group members. This page is very much a work in progress.
The sacred mountains stretch to the sky in the west of our tula, including RAINY PEAK, eternally shroudshrouded in blue-grey storm cloud, and THE THREE WARRIORS, where we graze our herds each summer.
Beneath the mountains lie the MISTY HILLS, with their forests and raging streams. Three steads lie in the hills, including our own Swenstead, on the banks of WHITEWATER.
Further east lies HERD VALLEY and the lowlands, rich with grain, where most of our clan lives in four mighty steads.

What is a Hide? A hide is an Old English measure of land based upon the area needed to support a small family and its dependents, usually between 60 and 120 acres. For Hero Wars purposes, a figure of 120 acres is assumed. So a tula of 200 Hides is 24,000 acres, 9,712 hectares, 97.12 square kilometres or 37.5 square miles. 1 hide = 120 acres = 48.562 hectares |

We are the THUNDER clan. Our neighbours are the no-good WOLF Clan who live in Rotroot Valley, with whom we have many law suits, the Lunar-loving BOAR Clan, with whom we maintain an increasingly uneasy truce, and our strong friends and allies the OAK Clan. We also have good friends from the far side of Rainy Peak, the SNAP TURTLE and HAIL HAWK clans (of another tribe). We often see them during our summer grazing, and have always married their daughters, and they ours.
The Wolf Clan are cowardly poachers for the most part, though they will sometimes launch a cattle raid against our herds. Encouraged by the Lunars, the Boar clan are becoming bolder in their raiding and plots against us. We have feuded with them in the past, and we are close to feuding with them again.
The Uz of the DARKWEB are our allies from ancient times, they live beneath the DRUMSTONES to the south of the THREE WARRIORS. Like us, the Zorak Zorani of the Burning Lead clan are their enemies.
The FIRE TRIBE of the distant north hate us, and send heroquesters armed with strange magic. Heler knows the secrets to quench their destructive fires, and Vingkot defends us with fighting strength, and so we remain strong.
HORSESPAWN often raid the valley steads in Fire Season, so the fyrd gathers there to defend the clan.
Zorak Zoran UZ raid in Earth and Dark Season from the BURNING LEAD clan, and CHAOS can erupt from BADFALL BEND, which is south of the sacred Rainy Peak.

Our clan has seven main steads. SWENSTEAD, RUNNING HORSE STEAD, and CLOUDPIERCE STEAD lie in the hilly wilderness, where life can be hard. THUNDER ROCK, HARVESTSTONE, BROKEN-SPEAR and GRAINGIFT steads are in the valleys, they have golden fields and wide meadows, they are rich, but can be easily raided. THUNDER ROCK is our ancestral stead, home to our chief, and our clan market. It lies at the valley mouth on the main road to the CITY.

The major bloodlines of our clan are the ROCKPLOUGH, the RAIN CATTLE and the SILVER OAKS, who live mainly in the lowland grain steads. Much of our clan politics revolve around the interests of these three powerful families. The FOUNDER SWEN and HUNTER BROTHERS bloodlines are smaller, and based in the hills, as is the BLACK LOAM, a once-powerful family now fallen on difficult times.
